hardware SSD recs... 5 years 11 months ago #1582

We're looking into HA-iSCSI for deployment into small rural schools where power outages are common and many "network rooms" are broom closets with only a 2-post rack. The pool would run 3-6 VMs providing basic network services. Having zero downtime for VMs is not as big a concern as being able to bounce back from a variety of soft- and hard-shutdown scenarios. We like the idea of using SSD only storage, and can afford it to be local in each server if we're not buying a NAS and switch. SO, question is, any recommendations on a pair of servers or a platform to look at? We typically use Supermicro.

Anything on the XenServer hardware compatibility list should do which will
ensure that you won't run into any compatibility issues with RAID controllers, NICs, etc..

Thank you. We're considering SuperServers with 10Gbe SFPs. Do you know will HA-iSCSI and DRBD work OK over a single fiber connect between servers? How about two fibers bonded?

That should be fine. Both iscsi-ha and drbd only utilize layer 3 transports (as in IP)
